Darren Fell, co-founder and managing director of Crunch.co.uk, reveals to GrowthBusiness that adding ‘real people’ to the accountancy business was his best business decision.

Crunch.co.uk is a technology-run accountancy firm for freelancers, contractors and small businesses.

We thought it was going to be a pure software system at the beginning, but I soon realised that there are so many complexities involved that we would need expert accountants on the end of the phone.

The decision was to create a software system and have a team of accountants within Crunch.co.uk. We went from an ordinary piece of software like the many thousands out there, to a unique offering.

It’s taken many years to put together and a lot of my own personal money, but it’s radically changed the whole business model.
