If the remorseless horrors of the recession are making you want to head for the sanctity of a remote island, then rocket technology company Tecnologia Aeroespacial Mexicana (TAM) may have the perfect escape.

Originally developed by the US military for combat soldiers in tight tactical situations (but later dropped), it first blasted onto our screens in the James Bond film Thunderball, flown by test pilot Bill Suitor. Now, thanks to TAM, being shot into the air like a human Buzz Lightyear is no longer the preserve of the military.

For the astronomical price of $125,000 (£85,000), the company provides you with a custom-made flying rocket belt, a special machine to make your own unlimited supply of rocket fuel, hands-on training – including ten flights in your own rocket belt, and maintenance and setup training (but no first-aid kit).

So, if it’s all getting a bit too much, simply strap into the Rocket Belt, forget your troubles, and soar high into the stratosphere. Well, it can at least get you over the building and across the car park. The rest is up to you.
