Raphael Healthcare, a specialist provider of mental healthcare for women, has been bought by RHC Group in a deal valuing the company at £30 million.

The Runcorn business received a £6.1 million investment from private equity house RJD Partners. Founders Arthur Robinson and John Lamb will retain equity in the health services business.

The company opened its first 30-bed hospital in Newark, Nottinghamshire, in 2006. In the last two years, the team has expanded the premises to accommodate 41 beds and now employs around 100 staff.

Perkins Mainman Solicitors provided legal services to the target. The legal team was led by Ian Mainman, senior partner, who has acted for the owner-founders for a number of years.

“Our role was to ensure that all the legal documentation and procedures relating to the acquisition of Raphael by RHC Group were created and executed in line with the legal requirements of the investment agreement,” said Mainman.

DLA Piper acted as legal adviser to the equity provider.
