Retail group Beale has acquired the department store Robbs of Hexham from MCR, the administrator of Vergo Retail, for £250,000.

The acquisition was made through Beale’s primary trading subsidiary J E Beale, and brings the Bournemouth-based company’s portfolio to twelve stores. The sale includes all assets, intellectual property and employees.

Northumberland-based Robbs department store is one of 17 Vergo outlets in the UK, which went into administration in May 2010.

Sarah Bell, partner of MCR, says: ‘It’s positive news for both the 76 Company employees whose jobs will be directly transferred to the new owners as well as the local community.’
