Looking like an unwieldy sun visor, the Personal 3D Viewer is the latest product to be released by global giant Sony, which markets the innovation as ‘a mini-cinema that’s just for you’.

The gadget provides people with the opportunity to view films and play video games in 3D by means of a cleverly engineered Head Mounted Display. The screen technology inside is OLED, which is widely used in phones due to its compact size and power-efficiency. So if you place the Personal 3D Viewer on your head, what can you expect?

(Apart from some funny looks if you do it in public, that is.) Two small OLED displays sit in front of your eyes, allowing you to experience the effect of a larger screen, while surround-sound offers to immerse you in your movie or game.

James Forrester, category marketing manager for home video at Sony UK, gushes, ‘Our goal was to recreate the cinema experience, in an immersive, personal headset.’

The headsets will be rolled out nationwide across Sony stores this winter. But if you cannot wait to get your hands on one, they have initially been launched in Harrods at a price of £800.
