Contact lens manufacturer Menicon has acquired Northampton-based rival David Thomas Contact Lenses (DTCL) for an undisclosed sum.
The deal will enable Japan-based Menicon to expand its presence in the UK. According to Menicon, the directors of DTCL will remain with the business and the company’s existing products will continue to be available.
Dr. Hiderani Tanaka, president of Menicon, said: ‘We have watched David Thomas Contact Lenses evolve into a leading speciality lens manufacturer in the UK and we see great potential to work together with DTCL to grow [our] business in this very important market.’
Menicon focuses on supplying soft contact lenses and has offices in 30 countries. The company acquired specialist lens producer Rose K International in October last year.
