Neil Hollister, chief executive at Berkshire-based Cryptocard, says the decision to acquire GrlDsure’s IP has been based on a company strategy to expand its computer security product range. This includes the inclusion of tokenless secuirty technology, which can include the access without passwords or other identifiers.

The purchase amounts have not been disclosed.

Following the acquisition, Cryptocard plans to open up its entry into the small and medium sized business arena, as it looks to provide protection against unauthorised cloud, application and network access and identity theft.

Cambridgeshire-headquartered GrlDsure has been talking about a potential sale of its IP during the past few weeks and started liquidation proceedings after its major investor walked away last month. It already had a relationship with Cryptocard, which will incorporate token-less authentication through its BlackShield software-as-a-service platform.

Hollister adds: ‘By delivering [tokenless technology] on Cryptocard’s BlackShield Cloud platform, the cost of the service delivery is minimal and builds on our vision to make strong authentification universally available to organisations globally, regardless of size.’
