Virtual computing provider Citrix Systems has completed the acquisition of Cloud.com which specialises in software infrastructure platforms for cloud providers.

The terms of the acquisition have not been disclosed but the addition of Cloud means Citrix can now offer a portfolio of virtualisation, orchestration and networking solutions, according to a statement.

Cloud.com’s product line includes CloudStack which enables providers to deploy and manage cloud services.

The acquisition comes as Citrix prepares to secure its share of the cloud market, the growth of which it expects to be fuelled by a significant build-out in cloud infrastructure.

Sheng Liang, CEO and founder of Cloud.com, says, ‘Joining forces with Citrix will dramatically accelerate our mission to help customers achieve all the promise cloud computing has to offer, in a way that’s open, secure and efficient.’

Citrix believes the acquisition will also help its support of OpenStack, an open source cloud infrastructure movement that includes over 1,100 developers and more than 80 member companies.

Citrix is a founding member of OpenStack and the second largest contributor to the project.

Following the agreement, Liang will continue to lead the design, architecture and technology of the CloudStack product line, reporting to Sameer Dholakia, group vice president and general manager of the newly-formed cloud platforms product group at Citrix.

Citrix has formed partnerships with over 10,000 companies and has an annual revenue of $1.87 billion (£1.18 billion).
