Aveva, which produces software for the plant, power and machinery sectors, has made an acquisition for a division of Z+F UK.

The £6.3 million deal is only for the part of the company that produces the LFM software services (3D laser scanning software) and follows an existing partnership with the business.

According to a statement, as a result of the purchase, Aveva will now be able to establish a new 3D data capture ‘Centre of Excellence’ in Manchester.

Dave Wheeldon, chief technology officer at Aveva, says the deal is a ‘strategic buy’.

He adds: ‘Z+F’s UK’s direction has been to create innovative software which adds value to laser data captured from any hardware vendor.

‘This is a natural fit for Aveva and will continue to be the focus for our new laser technology offering.’

Cambridge-headquartered Aveva reports that as part of the divisional acquisition of Manchester-based Z+F UK, its German parent company Z+F GmbH has been granted a licence to continue to distribute Z+F software with its own laser scanning hardware products.

Laser scanning is ‘increasingly’ being used in the design and construction phase to check that what has been built agrees to the original design, says the statement from the company.

Chief executive officer of Aveva, Richard Longdon, comments: ‘There is no let-up in the need to extend the life of ageing assets and ensure the highest levels of operational information integrity.’

Longdon says that Aveva customers are seeking different data capture techniques to digitise their assets and introduce 3D models.
